Silkie Chicken

Don't be scared :-) I am not cooking a monster, though it sure looks scary. It's the wuji or Silkie Chicken. They are kind of distinct in that they have silkie white feathers but black skin. In China, they are also associated with medicinal properties, especially for feminine ailments. Oh, the red berries are goji berries... they give the soup a slightly bitter sweetness.

Hands down best Iranian food in LA... and this is the only Iranian restaurant I've been to in LA but it was that good. The grilled chicken... mmmmm.

Where has Cat been lately?

Aww, such cute little cuppie cakes :) I got these mini cupcakes at the Vanilla Bake Shop in Century City Mall. Don't you just want to bite off that delicious looking raspberry? CHOMP!
Coffee Tomo in Little Osaka near Sawtelle. Pretty coffee/chai art. Next time, I wanna see a portrait of Mona Lisa :P
Ramen at Ramen Yamadaya in Westwood, it was kinda greasy. Had to eat like a ton of garlic to ease the greasiness. Reeked of garlic the day after...
Nan Kan near Taoyuan Airport in Taiwan. For some reason, I just couldn't pronounce Nan Kan. When the concierge at the hotel told me about it, I was like, Nan Ken? Nan Kang? Nan King?
Shanghai No.1 in San Gabriel. They are trying to recreate old Shanghai here... decor is slightly gaudy imo.
On my way to lunch at Clementine's.

New Shilin Market

Alas, nothing stays the same. I loved loved Shilin Night Market when I visited Taiwan in 2007 and 2010. It was like food heaven, and everything was so cheap. But, last year, the Taipei government decided to move it to an underground food court...whah? why? It was perfect. Oh well. Here is the entrance.
Here is what it looks like now... vendors all have the same signs, kind of like a basement food court.
This is the reason I braved the rain and traffic to travel all the way into Taipei, Fuchow pepper pancake.
Grilled corn. Not a fan. You pick a corn, and the vendor weighs it and charges you accordingly. The flavor is shacha, which is savory. Do not like my corn savory. I prefer American corn, which is less carbohydrate-y, and more crispy, watery and sweet.
Next to the corn vendor is the ... eh, nice hickey tattoo. I think they sold grilled bacon wrapped something.
